Clare McComb
R&D Tax Specialist
Clare’s Role
Clare plays a key role in keeping Amplifi’s R&D claims accurate and ready for HMRC. Each year, she reviews the prenotification requirements for new and existing clients and prepares the necessary forms, so important deadlines are not missed. She also completes the additional information forms required for every R&D claim, and prepares CT600s for clients who ask Amplifi to handle submission to HMRC directly. Alongside this, Clare reviews CT600s and tax computations prepared by other accountants, adding a further layer of diligence before anything is submitted.
Before Amplifi
Clare began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Personal Tax Department, where she completed her Institute of Accounting Technician exams and discovered a passion for tax that would shape her career.
She then moved to Deloitte’s personal tax team, studying alongside her role to qualify as an Association of Tax Technicians (ATT). There, she managed a portfolio spanning Northern Bank Investment Portfolio clients, owner-managed businesses, directors, and high-net-worth individuals.
Seeking broader exposure beyond personal tax, she joined Belfast-based Chartered Accountants Hill Vellacott, where she completed her Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification and gained valuable experience across Corporation Tax, payroll, and VAT, further deepening her personal tax expertise.
Outside Amplifi
Away from the world of work, Clare enjoys all things equestrian-related. While she enjoyed competing at various levels over the years, these days she gets her enjoyment through adventures with her best friend’s children and their ponies. She also enjoys going to the gym, spending time with family, friends, and her dog Lady.
